Summer vacation looks a bit different this year so we're helping you embrace the STAY-cation!

We're all trying to stay closer to home this year and while that might mean your typical summer vacation was canceled, it doesn't mean there's no way to enjoy the summer. So, we've compiled a list of staycation spots within driving distance of York. Be sure to check for any modified hours of operation before you go.  Stay safe and enjoy!

1. Shank’s Mare Outfitters

Spend a day outdoors exploring the Susquehanna River. At Shank's Mare Outfitters, take a guided kayaking tour and learn interesting information about the natural features, cultural and historical highlights of the area. Shank’s Mare also offers a full schedule of kayaking and stand-up paddleboard classes.

2. Ninja Logic

Ninja Logic, located in Hanover, PA is a 7,000 square foot facility filled with obstacles inspired by the hit TV show American Ninja Warrior. With three warped walls, an interchangeable bar structure that changes weekly, a spring floor, rock wall, salmon ladder, fry ladder, floating steps & rings, kid and adults alike can enjoy this new workout craze.

3. York County History Center

The York County History Center provides the opportunity to learn about the people and history of York County through multiple historic buildings and museums. Some suggestions to visit are the Colonial Complex which encompasses four historic buildings located downtown, the Fire Museum which allows visitors to see how York Firefighters worked, lived and played, the Historical Society Museum, and the Agricultural and Industrial Museum.

4. Lake Tobias Wildlife Park

Family-owned Lake Tobias Wildlife Park introduces you to wide variety of exotic and familiar animals. Known for their safari bus tours, a modification for this year is a drive-through safari in your own vehicle. Travel through over 150 acres of woodland and pasture habitat observing over 500 mammals and flightless birds roaming free. Visit the petting zoo, stroll through the zoo featuring exotic animals from around the world, and check out the indoor reptiles exhibit.

5. Heritage Rail Trail

The Heritage Rail Trail is 21 miles long and runs north from the Mason Dixon line just south of the Borough of New Freedom to the Colonial Courthouse in the City of York. Perfect for biking, jogging or just walking the dog, this well-maintained trail is relatively flat and has plenty of shade and spots to stop and rest.

6. Alpacas of York

Alpacas of York is a hidden gem located on a beautiful 21 acre farm close to John Rudy Park. Kids and adults alike will love watching the alpacas graze and frolic in the fields. The friendly owners and staff will share their knowledge while you feed and pet the alpacas.  The love the owners have for their animals really shows when you visit this farm.  Before you leave, stop by the farm store which offers handmade accessories. Currently open Wednesdays and Saturdays, 11:00am - 2:00pm.

7. Climbing at Spooky Nook Sports

Spooky Nook Sports offers both Clip 'N Climb and a climbing gym. The Nook Climbing Gym has uniquely designed walls reaching 30 feet in height.
